Port of London Authority
Each year since 2008 we have worked with the Port of London Authority PLA), implementing a project to remove problem trees alongside the River Thames towpath between Putney and Richmond. These trees are growing between the stonework of the Victorian-built revetments, causing significant damage to the river Walls and threatening their effectiveness as a flood defence.
This is a very sensitive project; local residents enjoy riverside walks under a lush tree canopy and do not like to see it removed; with an abundance of flora and fauna in the area, including Owls and Bats, conservation groups are rightly concerned about the destruction of wildlife habitats; the Environment Agency insists we guarantee no pollution will enter the river, making the use of organic chainsaw oil essential; and for the PLA themselves, we must ensure the Health and Safety of the general public. Method statements must be detailed, precise and adhered to, as the towpath remains open to the public during the entirety of the works. With all of these interested parties to juggle, there is plenty of scope for incident.
So why have the PLA come back to use Edward Payne & Co each year? Because whilst we represent very good value, we also have experienced teams who excel at what they do and who are courteous to all people at all times. Doing a contentious contract tests this to the full, and each Winter since 2008 we have proven we are up to the challenge.
